In the end, Chris Ploch was just lucky enough to secure his third win of the month and his third straight Alpine Short Track Dirt Crit Series Trophy.
In one of the most exciting finishes in recent memory, Ploch’s teammate as well as fellow Alpine Shop employee, John Matthews, was literally feet away from his first win of the 2010 series. With Matthews in the lead and Ploch right behind him as they came around the final turn on the course, Matthews had to go around a lapped rider as they hit the turn. When that rider veered towards the direction Matthews was heading, he was forced into a bad stretch of trail and thrown from his bike. With Matthews down, Ploch overtook him for the win.
Congratulations to all the racers and fans who made the 2010 Alpine Shop Short Track Dirt Crit Series such a fantastic success. We also want to make sure Ralph Pfremmer, race director, race announcer, race organizer and true jack of all trades is recognized for the work he has done to build this race into THE summer event in St. Louis for cyclists.
