2019 Customer Appreciation Weekends Start Now!

Every Friday through Sunday throughout the 2019 holiday season, all Alpine Shop locations (including The Pathfinder in Manhattan, Kan.) celebrate “Customer Appreciation Weekends.”

Holiday Cheer
Drinks and snacks… courtesy of all Alpine Shop locations this holiday season.

If you’re new to this, let us answer the question:  “Just what exactly does a “Customer Appreciation Weekend” entail?”

It means FREE beer, wine, coffee, tea, soft drinks and water. It also means FREE snacks. While you’re shopping. FREE drinks and snacks. While you shop. During the holiday weekends.

Clear enough?

Not everyone likes heading out on their weekends to shop this time of year. And then there are those that love to shop this time of year. But one thing we’re pretty sure of: Everyone loves FREE drinks and snacks while they’re shopping.

We’re just trying to make it easier – and more enjoyable – for everyone.

It’s just our way of saying “Thanks” for continuing to support local businesses and continuing to shop with us at Alpine Shop and The Pathfinder

Donate a Coat, Take $25 Off Your Next Purchase

Since we held our first coat drive back in 2006, Alpine Shop customers have donated over 16,000 coats to help keep our communities warm. This year, we’re asking for your help, once again, in bringing in at least a thousand more as Alpine Shop kicks off its 14th annual One Warm Coat Drive on Friday, November 15, 2019 at all Alpine Shop locations in Missouri and at The Pathfinder in Manhattan, Kansas.

How It Works

From Friday, Nov. 15 through Wednesday, Nov. 27, we’ll accept clean, gently-used coats, jackets and sweaters at each and every Alpine Shop location.

• Just for bringing in a garment, we’ll give you a $25 off coupon for your next full-price purchase of $125 or more at any Alpine Shop store. (Some exclusions apply. See a sales associate for details.)

• Plus, we’re also giving away four $250 Alpine Shop Gift Cards – one for each of our stores. For each and every coat or sweater you donate, you get one entry into that drawing. Here’s the deal, though… we only draw the gift cards when we reach our goal of 1000 total coats donated across all of our stores. And each Alpine Shop location must collect at least 100 coats to be eligible to give away a gift card. So, help your local Alpine Shop out!

NOTE: Alpine Shop will only give away one coupon to each customer during the coat drive no matter how many different coats you donate. However, each item donated will still earn one entry into the gift card drawing.

How to Donate

Alpine Shop has made donating simple. Just bring your clean, gently used coats, jackets and sweaters to any Alpine Shop location. Bring your coats inside the store and check them in with one of the store’s outfitters to make sure you receive your coupon and get entered into the drawing. Then, Alpine Shop and One Warm Coat take care of the rest.

Donated coats will be split among organizations in the greater St. Louis are, including: Webster-Rock Hill Ministries and the St. Patrick Center. In Columbia, all coats will go to the Rainbow House. At The Pathfinder in Manhattan, Kan., all coats will be donated to FIT Closet and Clothing Exchange.

In November of 2018, Alpine Shop customers brought in nearly 1300 coats in just over 10 days.

Last year, we managed to beat our goal once again. We hope you can help us do the same in 2019!

On the Passing of an Outdoor Industry Legend

RIP Gert Boyle
Chairman of the Board
Columbia Sportswear

by Lisa Hollenbeck, Alpine Shop Co-owner

The outdoor industry has lost One Tough Mother. Gert Boyle, Chairman of the Board (she hated the term “chairwoman”) and former CEO of Columbia Sportswear, died on Sunday, November 3, 2019, at the age of 95.” reported SNEWS.

I want to be like Gert.

Seriously, in so many ways.

I met Mrs. Boyle in person on two occasions.

The first was at the Ski Show, during Columbia’s One Tough Mother campaign, which made fun of Mrs. Boyle’s reputation of being One Tough Mother while demonstrating her commitment to the quality of the brand.

Columbia Sportswear provided free lattes in the mornings at the Show. I stopped by one morning early and was the first in line. As I waited for the barista to arrive, I noticed a couple people browsing the racks.

I turned the other way and saw Mrs. Boyle walking down the aisle from the back showrooms. She stopped dead in her tracks and pivoted.

“Hey!” she yelled, toward the back toward. “We have customers out here!” Just like in the ads.

The second time was when we were invited to a Premiere Dealer event at headquarters in Portland, as part of Columbia’s campaign to remind Specialty Outdoor Retail that we are important to them.

Mrs. Boyle appeared on stage in a dramatic entrance, and then addressed the group. She asked us to collaborate with her to improve the Columbia line. She invited us to talk to her right there if we had something on our minds.

I got up and walked over, a little nervous about addressing a luminary in our industry.

“I’d love to carry our Plus Sizes in our stores, but they don’t fit right. They give you bubble butt, which is the last thing we plus size women need,” blurted then-size-22 me.

She immediately called the head women’s design over, and asked her to talk with me. Talk about feeling heard!

There is a reason you are a legend, Mrs. Boyle. Thank you for the inspiration.

Lisa Hollenbeck
Alpine Shop Co-Owner

PS I received a text about Mrs. Boyle’s passing, while the women on our team were participating in the Women’s Luncheon here in Denver at the Grassroots Connect trade show.

I did not expect to be so overwhelmed with emotion that I shed a few tears as I shared the sad news. So many women in that room, young and old, had been inspired by Mrs. Boyle.

Burton’s Step-On Boots & Bindings Launch!

If you’ve ever hit the slopes on your board and wished – just once – that you didn’t have to sit down or bend down to strap your boots into your bindings… well, Burton may just be your genie.

Introducing Step-On from Burton.

Step-On from Burton

Offering hands-free convenience that’s easier for beginners along with remarkable performance for the best pros, Step On is a game changer for anyone interested in riding the mountain.

Step On & Go – Simplified for Beginners

Ready to Send – Trusted by Pros

How Step On Works

Burton’s Step On Boots and Bindings are sold together to make sure you have the necessary hardware for the system to work properly. Besides that, the system works much like the traditional strap and buckle system has worked for years. Instead of straps, though, there are three connection points on your boots that connect directly into the binding. Meaning, you can ride as hard as you like; your boots won’t release unless you want them to and as long as you’ve dialed your fit into your boots (as only a certified outfitter like Alpine Shop can do), you have the best transfer of movement from your body to your board.

So, like we said, it’s easier for beginners. Just step in. No need to sit on the snow and connect your straps.

And, like we also said, it’s ready for the best of the best.

The launch starts today, November 4, in Alpine Shop Kirkwood. Get yours while we have them in stock!
