The North Face Customer Appreciation Weekend

Join us this Saturday, December 11 through Sunday, Dec. 12, at all Alpine Shop and The Pathfinder locations as we celebrate The North Face Customer Appreciation Weekend. All stores will have snacks and/or refreshments available for all customers to take home with them, compliments of The North Face.

Love all things The North Face? (And really, who doesn’t?) You’ll want to be in the store on this day. We’ll have TNF branded gifts with any purchase from The North Face. Offer good while supplies last.

Our Kirkwood location is also pleased to welcome our local TNF vendor rep (and former Alpine Shop manager) Peter Carleton, who will join us on Saturday.

See you this Saturday and Sunday at Alpine Shop and The Pathfinder for The North Face Customer Appreciation Weekend!

Donate a Coat, Take $25 Off Your Next Apparel Purchase

Since we held our first coat drive back in 2006, Alpine Shop customers have donated over 18,000 coats to help keep our communities warm. This year, we’re asking for your help, once again, in bringing in at least one thousand more as Alpine Shop and The Pathfinder stores kick off their 16th annual One Warm Coat Drive on Monday, November 1, 2021 at all Alpine Shop locations in Missouri and at The Pathfinder in Manhattan, Kansas.

How It Works

From Monday, November 1 through Thursday, November 11, we’ll accept clean, gently-used coats, jackets and sweaters at each and every Alpine Shop location.

• Just for bringing in a garment–any coat, jacket or sweater–we’ll give you a $25 off coupon for your next full-price apparel purchase of $125 or more at any Alpine Shop or The Pathfinder store. (Some exclusions apply. See a sales associate for details.)

• Plus, we’re also giving away four prize packages – each including a $100 Alpine Shop Gift Card and a Thermoball Eco Jacket from The North Face – one from each of our stores. For each and every coat or sweater you donate, you get one entry into that drawing. Here’s the deal, though… we only draw the prize packages when we reach our goal of 1000 total coats donated across all of our stores. And each Alpine Shop location must collect at least 100 coats to be eligible to give away a gift card. So, help your local Alpine Shop out!

NOTE: Alpine Shop will only give away one coupon to each customer during the coat drive no matter how many different coats you donate. However, each item donated will still earn one entry into the gift card drawing.

How to Donate

Alpine Shop has made donating simple. Just bring your clean, gently used coats, jackets and sweaters to any Alpine Shop or The Pathfinder location. Bring your coats inside the store and check them in with one of the store’s outfitters to make sure you receive your coupon and get entered into the drawing. Then, Alpine Shop, The Pathfinder and One Warm Coat take care of the rest.

Donated coats will be split among organizations in the greater St. Louis are, including: Webster-Rock Hill Ministries and the St. Patrick Center. In Columbia, all coats will go to the Rainbow House. At The Pathfinder in Manhattan, Kan., coats will be donated to Common Table, The Manhattan Emergency Shelter and FIT Closet and Clothing Exchange.

Last year, we managed to beat our goal once again. We hope you can help us do the same in 2021!

Alpine Shop’s Top 5 Hiking Boots for Spring

Despite the unceasing stream of bad news, spring is still coming. The rain will stop, the days will brighten, and the world will turn green again. If you’re dreading days of isolation, it may just be time to take a hike.

At Alpine Shop, we’ve got top-rated hiking boots to get you back to nature this season. The best part? Hiking is the original “social distancing.”

Our Top 5 Picks for Hiking this Spring

  • Salomon Quest

These boots were voted best for rugged terrain according to Switch Back Travel, and fans call them tough and supportive, yet comfortable. Updated just last year, these shoes were redesigned to provide a more flexible platform for comfort and an improved outsole for grip. We love Salomon Quest because they include technology designed to reduce fatigue. With seam-sealed GORE-TEX membranes, they’ll keep your feet dry, too. We think you’ll find them stable, cushioning, and perfect for your next backpacking trip.

  • Oboz Sawtooth II

These are new in stock, and we couldn’t be happier to offer them to our hikers.

Oboz has a reputation for designing comfortable footwear, and the Sawtooth II model is no exception. Plush on the inside and tough on the outside, these boots are perfect for your next camping trip. We like the breathable mesh paneling and the lighter weight of these shoes, which fit snugly around your ankle. Oboz shoes have an O FIT Insole, a proprietary feature that gives you an unbeatable fit.

  • Vasque St. Elias GTX

Our next pick is the updated St. Elias GTX. Don’t let their rather clunky appearance fool you. These shoes are comfortable right out of the box. They’re also flexible and sturdy, which makes them perfect for long distance hikes. Plus, they feature a waterproof leather upper and a GORE-TEX membrane to keep your toes nice and dry. We love these shoes because, while they have a classic boot look, they’re still nice and nimble on the trail.

  • Merrell Moab 2

If you aren’t familiar with this brand, you soon will be. Some hikers say that Merrell Moab boots set the standard for footwear. What makes the Moab so popular? The reasonable price is one factor. They’re also lightweight and comfy, with a supportive footbed and Vibram traction. With a waterproof membrane and lots of arch support, these hikers will carry you across any terrain.

  • Keen Targhee III

This is another product that comes with a reasonable price tag and comfort from the first wear. We call the Keen line iconic because it’s been popular since its inception, known to be reliable for day hiking and weekend camping trips. These shoes offer a waterproof yet breathable membrane and a stable heel. They’re durable and stylish enough to become your go-to favorite this season.

All of these choices are ready to wear and durable enough to hold up to rough trail conditions and spring rains. They’re perfect for when you can’t take one more moment in the house. Want more recommendations? Contact us at Alpine Shop or visit our online store!

Alpine Shop’s Must Have Ski & Snowboard Gear

February is the month of prime time skiing and snowboarding in Missouri. Fortunately, Alpine Shop has partnered with several quality brands to serve our outdoor adventurers with stylish and durable items all season. One thing to keep in mind is that comfort is key, so dress for your climate.

Below, we’ve listed 10 must have items for winter sports, outside of the obvious ones like boots, skiis, poles, and snowboards. Check them out!

Ski & Snowboard Socks

Smartwool PhD Ski Medium Pattern Sock for Women

The Alpine Shop knows that ski and snowboard socks should be taller than your boots and not overly thick because that can restrict your blood circulation, which will actually make you colder. They should also have padding to protect your shins when they press against your boots. Luckily, we have a mixture of wool and synthetic socks to choose from to protect your feet from the cold, wet February weather.

Find these patterned socks from Smartwool® PhD here.

Helmet

Scout Helmet – Men’s Matte Jade Block

We’re big on safety at the Alpine Shop. A helmet will not only protect you from head injuries, but it will also keep your head and ears dry and warm. For added warmth, wear a form-fitting hat underneath. Helmets can also protect your eyes from especially sunny days. And when you have a clear view, you’re less likely to have accidents.

For this Smith Scout Snowsport helmet, go here.

Gloves or Mittens

Army Leather Heli Glove – Men’s

When it comes to handwear, make sure that the item you choose is designed for snowsports. Regular gloves or mittens won’t give you the protection you need, whereas skiing and snowboarding handwear are more insulated, waterproof, and may have a rubber lining for easy grip.

For these stylish gloves above, go here.

Goggles

Smith I/O Mag Xl Goggle – Black/Everyday Green Mirror

High quality goggles are a key piece to this list, as they protect your eyes from wind, snow, and sun glare. Not to mention, goggles increase contrast with snow, which is important because it helps you see bumps and slopes ahead. Make sure your goggles are properly secured so they don’t fall off during high speed winter sports.

For these green and blue gradient goggles by Smith, go here.

Neck Gaiter or Balaclava

Seirus Fleece Balacava

Alpine Shop has several neck gaiter and balaclava options to choose from. Neck gaiters are great to pull up over your nose in cold temperatures, but a balaclava offers even greater coverage. Always keep the bottom of neck gaiters or balaclavas under the collar of your jacket.

For this sleek neck gaiter by Seirus®, go here.

Light Fleece or Wool Top

Patagonia Lightweight Synchilla Snap- T – Men’s

Need extra warmth? Wearing a light fleece or wool top under your jacket will add extra insulation on the slopes. Avoid cotton fabrics because they are not only colder, but they also take forever to dry out when wet from snow or sweat. Choose fabric that’s a cross between form-fitting and bulky so you can stay cozy and move around easily.

Ski & Snowboard Jacket

Columbia Autumn Slide Jacket – Women’s

You can’t go skiing or snowboarding without a jacket, right? Luckily, we have a variety to choose from for men, women, and kids. Choose a jacket that is breathable, waterproof or water resistant, insulated, and has convenient pockets. It may also be beneficial to choose one that’s a tad longer than a normal jacket to avoid snow seeping onto your base layer.

For the women’s ski/snowboard jacket above, go here.

Snow Pants

Snow Gun Pant – Men’s Item # 1462951

Columbia Snow Gun Pant – Men’s

The Alpine Shop has a number of color and style variations to choose from when it comes to ski and snowboard pants. Again, they should be waterproof or water resistant, and insulated, as well as have convenient pockets. Add fleece pants underneath for better insulation. The inner powder cuff goes over your boots to prevent snow from getting in. And remember, comfortability is the name of the game.

For these men’s gray snow pants by Columbia, go here.

Warm Baselayer

Smartwool NTS Mid 250 Crew Baselayer – Women’s

The baselayer will wick sweat off your skin and keep you warm. Wool, synthetic, or silk materials are best. Depending on the outside temperature and your comfort level, you may choose between a midweight and lightweight baselayer. Make sure the top and bottom fit properly, so they aren’t sliding around as you walk.

Ski and Snowboard Luggage

Burton Boothaus Bag – Medium

Having the right luggage is essential to contain all of those bulky gear for a trip to the slopes. You will want to make sure it’s durable, waterproof or water resistant, lightweight, and spacious. At Alpine Shop, we have different luggage for each winter sport, which includes ski roller bags, boot bags, and snowboard bags. We also have a general duffel bag, like the one above, for clothes and other accessories.

For this black ski and snowboard boot bag by Burton, go here.
