A couple of weeks ago, we told you our O’Fallon, Illinois location was closing and introduced you to the biggest sale in our company’s history.
Well, time is now running out on this sale.
The Stock Consolidation Sale at the remaining Alpine Shop locations (Kirkwood, Chesterfield, and Columbia, Mo.) will end on Saturday, March 31. So, if you shop at any of the locations other than our O’Fallon store, you have the rest of this week (we’re closed on Easter Sunday!), to get your choice of gear and apparel at the best prices you’ll find anywhere.

All just-arrived spring 2018 clothing and outerwear are at least 20% off with discounts of now 35-55% in place for previous seasons’ merchandise.
Footwear and cycling gear all start at 15% off, including all new 2018 product. , camping, climbing and paddling gear all start at 10% off* for models that just arrived within the past month with reductions of 35-55% off previous seasons’ models.
Markdowns of 30-40% will be taken in the snowsport category, as well.

Alpine Shop will close it’s O’Fallon, Illinois location in mid-April after six years at 1855 West US Hwy 50.
[ST. LOUIS – MARCH 11, 2017] Alpine Shop, locally owned and operated for 44 years as the Midwest’s home for the great outdoors, announced today that it will be closing its O’Fallon, Illinois location at the conclusion of a four-store stock consolidation sale that commences on Wednesday, March 14th.
In December of 2012, Alpine Shop opened its O’Fallon locale with the goal of bringing its vision of “Generations Transformed by Discovery Outdoors” to St. Clair County.
Six years later, declining sales in that market combined with an up-for-renewal lease have caused the St. Louis-based outdoor-recreation company to make the decision to close the O’Fallon store by mid-April of 2018.
“Unfortunately,” said owner, Russell “Holly” Hollenbeck. “Despite our best efforts, the store has just never taken root there like we had hoped. With our lease expiring next month, we made the difficult decision not to renew.”
This will be the first time in company history that Alpine Shop will close a store with no immediate plans to relocate in the same area.
Alpine Shop will liquidate the entire inventory at its 1855 West US Highway 50 store in O’Fallon.
All just-arrived spring 2018 clothing and outerwear prices will be marked down at least 20% off with discounts of 30-50% in place for previous seasons’ merchandise. Footwear, camping, climbing, cycling and paddling gear will start at 10% off* for models that just arrived within the past month with reductions of 20-60% off previous seasons’ models. Further markdowns will be taken in the snowsport category, as well.
Hollenbeck also announced that the company would be extending those exact same discounts to customers at all four Alpine Shop stores for a limited time beginning next week.
“We have some incredible customers that have been a part of our lives for almost as long as we’ve been in business,” Hollenbeck said. “We felt it was unreasonable to put on a promotion at one store that didn’t offer the same sort of opportunities to the people that have been supporting us for more than four decades.”
All Alpine Shop locations will be closed Monday, March 12 and Tuesday, March 13 to prepare for this event. Doors will reopen on Wednesday, March 14 at 9 a.m., for the single largest promotion in the company’s history.
For nearly 44 years, Alpine Shop has outfitted customers for adventures spanning far across the globe and hikes just up the street. They have expanded from a small climbing store in Webster Groves, Mo., into one of the finest outdoor specialty retailers in the country.

On two occasions in the past month, our flagship store in Kirkwood, Mo., has welcomed local morning show personalities to our store to discuss how to use layering for the most comfort and safety throughout the winter season.
And even as it starts to warm over the next couple of months, the concept of layering is just as important, because the “shoulder seasons” can feature such drastic temperature and condition changes in such a short time.
The most important layer to begin with is your baselayer. This stays true for all active pursuits, no matter what season you’re in throughout the year. If it’s summer, your baselayer may be the only thing you’re wearing at times. In the winter, your choice of baselayer becomes vitaly important depending on how active you’ll be during the time you’re outside.
If you’ll be constantly on the move–hiking, running, backcountry skiing or something similar, you’re biggest concern will not necessarily be warmth, it will most likely be sweat. You need to make sure all that moisture you’re generating gets removed from your skin as quickly as possible. While sweat may help keep us cool in the summer, during the winter, perspiration that soaks our clothing can cause death due to hypothermia in extreme situations. Even at the best of times, wet clothing is just downright uncomfortable.
So, the first layer for active pursuits should be a comfortably form-fitting baselayer. We want it form-fitting so it can wick the sweat off of your body and spread that perspiration out across the entire surface of the shirt (or pants, socks, gloves or hat). That expansion over a wide area exposes more of the moisture to the air, increasing its evaporation and keeping you drier. This is why we recommend merino wool and synthetic fabrics that are specifically designed (either by Mother Nature or by man) to manage moisture and our body temperatures. More on that later.

If you’re not going to be consistently active – think sitting on a ski lift for long periods of time, watching winter sports from the sidelines or any other reason you may just be standing around outside in the cold for awhile, your needs for your baselayer change a bit to reflect the lack of sweat you’re creating. In this situation, we’re likely to recommend your baselayer have a more relaxed fit where it can store a layer of heat between itself and your body.
Your baselayer can cover almost every inch of your body, from your socks to the tips of your fingers, depending on just how cold your environment is. Plan wisely and use either merino wool or synthetic fabrics. If you will be involved in any active endeavors whatsoever, we can not stress enough that cotton fabrics are dangerous when used as winter layers because they lose nearly all of their insulation qualities once wet – and even worse, take an extremely long time to dry.

Donated coats take over the conference room in our Kirkwood location as our annual One Warm Coat Drive begins once again.
Since 2010, Alpine Shop customers have donated over 13,000 coats to help keep our communities warm during our winter coat drive. This year, we’re asking for your help in bringing in 1000 more as Alpine Shop kicks off it’s 12th annual One Warm Coat Drive on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at all Alpine Shop locations and at The Pathfinder in Manhattan, Ks.
How It Works
From Saturday, Nov. 11 through Wednesday, Nov. 22, we’ll accept clean, gently-used coats, jackets and sweaters at each and every Alpine Shop location.
• For each coat or sweater donated you will receive one entry into a drawing for one of five $250 Alpine Shop Gift Cards that we will give away when we reach our goal of 1000 coats. (Each Alpine Shop store must collect at least 100 coats to be eligible to give away a gift card. Help your local store out!)
• For your participation in the coat drive, you’ll also receive a $25 off coupon on your next full-price purchase of $125 or more at any Alpine Shop store. (Some exclusions apply.)
NOTE: Alpine Shop will only give away one coupon to each customer during the coat drive no matter how many different coats you donate. However, each item donated will still earn one entry into the gift card drawing.

Alpine Shop has made donating simple. Just bring your clean, gently used coats, jackets and sweaters to any Alpine Shop location. Bring your coats inside the store and check them in with one of the store’s outfitters to make sure you receive your coupon and get entered into the drawing.
